Many people put off seeing a dentist even when they have a toothache using at home remedies thinking that is enough if the pain goes away. However, If the toothache is caused by a major infection or tooth decay, it will not just go away on its own. You should see a dentist if you experience the following symptoms along with the toothache:
* A fever and chills. This could be a sign that the infection is serious and the symptoms will get worse.
* Discharge. Again, you do not want to risk letting a bad infection get worse.
* Pain that grows worse and will not go away, even after taking medication. You could have a cavity that gets worse after every meal.
* You have trouble swallowing or breathing, which may be caused by an abscess.
* Pain keeps coming back.
Keep in mind if you have pain it is telling you that something is wrong. Just getting rid of the pain with aspirin and or ibuprofen is not fixing the reason why it hurting in the first place. Make a dental appointment so that your tooth can be fixed and to prevent larger dental and medical needs.
