Online Dental Insurance – Costly Dental Work Needed

Jun. 19th 2022

Question: I recently bought dental insurance,  I had current dental issues that I wanted to take care of,  so I went to the dentist and had my free check up, X-rays and cleaning,  minus my $50.00 deductible.

I was told that I need over $5000.00 worth of dental work but that my policy as a max of $2000.00.  The dental office staff said that I was lucky that I did not have waiting periods but that  a course I will be going over my max limit if I was to get the dental work done. The dental office does not offer a in house payment plan option.  Although I have one credit card I can not afford to put more money on it because making the monthly payments on it is all ready really hard for me to do.

I was  happy thinking I could finally have my needed dental work done now that I have dental insurance only to be let down.  I am not sure what I can do at this point.  The dentist told me if I continue to delay treatment my teeth will only get worse causing not only more pain but more dental expense.   Please I am looking for some advise on how I can get my dental work done.

Reply: Your problem is not too uncommon. However there is a easy way to deal with it. Have the dentist work with you and your plan. Do only what is needed the most keeping it under the max limit. Then when your policy rolls over you can do the next needed dental service.

You do not have to have $5000.00 worth of dental work done in one day spread it out over the course of one or two years whatever you can afford. At least this way you will be able to get some dental work done. After all you been waiting this long doing nothing.. What does it matter if it take a little time to get all your teeth fixed when the point is at least you are getting them fixed.

Another option: On this website depending on what state you are in we do provide a Delta Dental PPO plan that has a $3000.00 max limit with no waiting periods but you would want to compare it’s first year benefits to what you currently have to see if it worth making the change for a higher max limitation.

Dental Insurance, Why you should buy dental insurance

Jul. 22nd 2010

It is important to understand your dental insurance, and how the dental plan you have or may be thinking about getting works.   It sad but many people do not even think about having dental insurance until they have major dental needs.

Then these same people get upset over waiting periods or standard exclusions that are common in most dental insurance plans.   As an example:  People who are looking for dental bridges get upset when they find out that many dental insurance plans have missing tooth clauses.  (Meaning the dental insurance will not cover out for a bridge if the tooth was missing before having the plan in force)

Still other people do not even think about having dental insurance until they have a toothache.  They find out they may need a root canal and crown.  Both dental services that fall under the major category.

Since many dental insurance plans have waiting period for both basic and major dental services you can be out waiting a year or more before a root canal or crown would even be covered under the plan.  You can see were waiting until you need dental work would not be helpful to you with these types of dental plans.

Do not fall into these traps.  Get dental insurance even if right now you have the best teeth in the world. Having dental insurance when all you need is a basic cleaning will hopefully help you to avoid ever having to have major dental work in the future.

Since in theory if you have dental insurance you will be using it to see your dentist a least two times a years.  Maintain your healthy teeth and gums.

Dental insurance works great and will save you and your family money during these hard times.  So do not look only at today’s needs, but what your needs maybe  in the future.  And remember seeing a dentist at least twice a year will also save you in dental cost by having your dental checks and keeping your teeth healthy and free of decay.

HMO dental insurance plan, finding the right dentist.

Jul. 21st 2010

After reviewing many on line dental insurance plans I have made up my mind that I will want to go with an dental HMO plan.  I like that they are the most affordable plans you can get and that they are still insurance and not some discounted saving plan.

However since you have to pick a dentist in their network of providers how do you pick the best one.  Is there any tips on choosing the right dentist.  I know I can change dentist but who wants to go though that hassle.

I have broken a tooth and don’t have dental insurance!

Jun. 27th 2010

Please help.   I am twenty with no job and no dental insurance.   I just broken one of my back molars.  I took a whole corner off the tooth.   It was one of the molars I had an old filling in.  Up until this point I have not had any issues with my teeth.

I try to take good care of my teeth because I do not have any funds to see a dentist.  Now I have no choose and I do not want to ask my parents for any money to get my tooth fixed because they are already paying for me to go to collage.

Were can I go to fix my tooth at a very low cost to me?  Is there someplace I could get it done for free?  Or at least maybe get a student discount.  I do not know any help would be great thanks.

Need Dental Insurance, I have a bad toothache and do not have dental insurance

Jun. 10th 2010

I do not have dental insurance currently which sucks right now since I have a really bad toothache.  I though I could just go to the hospital emergency to have them just pull the bad tooth out.

I found out they do not do that.  I was offer some pain killers which help a little but was told I would need to go to a dentist to have the tooth pulled or fixed.  What can I do I do not have dental insurance.

Are there any emergency  dentist that have to take you like hospitals do.  I know that if I do not have medical the hospitals take you and then have to offer you a payment plan if they want to get paid.  Is there something like that from a dentist?   Please advise I need to have this tooth pulled.

Dental insurance for braces, I want to get braces

Jun. 9th 2010

When I was eight I had really bad  teeth but my parents were told by a Orthodontic dentist that it was too soon for me to have braces so they put off the work that needed to be done.  Two years latter my parents dental plan no longer would cover for braces.

So in short I never got the need braces when I should have.  Now my teeth are really crooked and I hate them.  I a sixteen and just want to have good teeth.  My parents know I need braces but they say they can not afford them.

What can I do to make it affordable for my parents to finally get me the braces I really need to have in order for me to have straight teeth.  They do not understand just how up set I am that I have to have crooked teeth.

Dental care, I have terrible teeth need dental help

Jun. 9th 2010

So I am still very young at only eighteen.  My teeth are in very bad shape.  In fact I always had bad teeth even my baby teeth were cavity ridden.  Now with my adult teeth I have already have had seven cavities that needed to be filled.

My mom was paying for my dental work out of her pocket since we never had any dental insurance but she told me today that she is no longer going to be paying my dental bills and that I better start taken care of my teeth.

The thing is I do brush three times a day most days.  It is not like I do not try and take care of my teeth they are just week or something.  Right now I my teeth are okay since I just seen the dentist three months ago.  But what if I keep getting cavities like I have in the past.  How am I going to pay my own dental billing?

Online dental help, Dental Help I cracked my tooth.

Jun. 8th 2010

I have a cracked back molar that I have been wanting to get fixed.  I went to my general dentist that I see on and off.  She told me even with my insurance it would cost me $1900.00 because I need a root canal and a crown done.

I do not have that kind of money and even though I did apply for a loan with the company the dental office uses I was denied.  I am not sure what to do at this point.  How do I get my tooth fixed without it costing so much?

I have two dental insurance plans, can I pick the dental plan I want to use

Jun. 5th 2010

Both my husband and I get dental insurance though our jobs.  We each have each other on our plans, therefore giving us both two dental insurance plans.   Which I though would be cool since our dentist is a network provider of both plans.

On my dental insurance plan it said I have to pay 335.00 for a porcine with metal crown but on my husband plan we only have to pay 275.00 for the same crown.  Naturally in this case I want to use my husband plan since the crown would cost me less.  My dentist is saying I have to use my plan at 335.00 even though he takes both and I am on both.

I told him I want to use the other plan and he is saying since he started with my plan when I had a filling done,  he has to stay with my plan for the treatment advise to me.  This seems like a lie to me.  I am not asking to use both plans for the same treatment I am only wanting to use whatever plan is the best for the services I am need.  What is the problem with that he take both plans… I  my dentist just trying to charge me the higher rate regardless of what I have?

Dental Insurance, I think my dental office is submitting claims twice.

Jun. 3rd 2010

I think my dental office is submitting my dental claim to my insurance company twice.  Making my company pay for the same  services two times and charging me more as well.  So here is what going on.  I had a dental plan treatment that was going to cost $2200.00.  My dental insurance company as a maximum limit of $2000.00.  Keeping that in mind I paid my dental office at the time services was render $200.00 thinking that should be the end of the matter.

A month later I get a dental billing from the dentist for another $400.00.  Confused I went on line to my dental insurance to see what was filed and it looks like they filed the same claim twice to my dental insurance company.  Another thing is that it looks like my plan paid the dentist around $3500.00 which would be $1500.00 over my max limit.  I an not understanding what is going on here.  I tried calling my insurance company but the hold time is over 30 minutes.

I do not want to pay another $400.00 to my dentist when I think they are charging for the same claim twice.  What should I do I hate worrying about it.

Dental Insurance Help, Is it normal to pay high dental cost when you have good dental insurance

Jun. 2nd 2010

I have a really good dental insurance plan though work.  However when I go to the dentist they bill me almost as much as my dental insurance company is paying for.  I am starting to think they are billing me the full amount and still sending the claim to get paid by the insurance company.  I never get any of my money back either.

Some people tell me that the dental office I am going to seems to be dishonest were other people say this is very typical and that dental work is very expensive.  How would I know if the dental office is ripping me off or not.  Should I just go to a different dental office?
