Dental crowns can become costly additional so when you do not have dental insurance in place. Most PPO plans will pay out up to 50% of crown cost after any waiting periods. HMO dental insurance plans will typically not have waiting periods for crowns, and base your co-payment off a fee schedule stating the amount you would have to pay for crowns.
If you have a current dentist you want to stay with but is not a provider of any HMO dental insurance plan it is best to get a Dental PPO or Indemnity plan in advance of needing any major dental care due to their waiting periods.
