Online Dental Insurance, Which plan is better?
Question: Looking online for dental insurance has become a pain. There are too many out there, and it gets to be overwhelming. I want to avoid looking for weeks to get a dental insurance plan.
What would be the best dental insurance plan? I need primary dental care but do not have dental insurance through my employer.
Reply: The best dental plan would be based on individual dental care needs and requirements. It is a good idea to review a few plans. However, it may be helpful to have a starting point. By asking yourself a few questions, you may narrow down the type of dental insurance plan that best fits your current needs. Below are some examples
- Do you want to stay with or choose your dental providers? PPOs and Indemnity insurance plans will let you go to your dentist regardless of whether or not they are a provider of the insurance plan. In contrast, you must choose a plan provider with an HMO, as there are no outside network benefits.
- Are you on a low or fixed income making the cost of the insurance plan a factor? You will note that HMOs are the more budget-friendly options for dental insurance. HMO plans will typically run around $8.00 to $40.00 a month, depending on how many people will be on the plan.
- Do you need major dental care? If so, you will need either a PPO plan that does not have waiting periods or an HMO plan, as HMO plans typically don’t have waiting periods.
