Dental insurance help for a chipped tooth

I would like to fix an old chipped tooth that I have that is in the front of my mouth. A corner of my front tooth is chipped off. I looks kinda bad but I had it that way for two years.
I chipped it playing around with my friends and my mom could not afford for me to get it fixed at the time. I am now 18 so I am thinking I can pay for it myself. My question is if I get insurance will they cover for my tooth to get fixed now? Or will they say it is preexisting and not cover my chipped tooth?
How would I know for sure before buying any dental insurance? I read though a few of the plans I seen but nothing states what preexisting really is. Can you advise
