Maryland dental insurance care for cracking Jaw

Maryland dental insurance care for cracking Jaw. So my jaw cracks all the time, and I am starting to think it may be serious. For about a year now when I open my mouth to wide or sometimes when I eat I can hear my jaw make cracking noises like if you are cracking your knuckles only in you jaw. I worried this may be a big issue. My jaw does not hurt but it does get stiff once in awhile.
So what could be going on with my jaw? If I see a dentist could they fix it? Also since I do not have dental insurance should I be getting some now for this issue with my jaw? Looking for helpful advise.
